Ah, you've noticed. Flattering. They have decided to help me with a little project.
You see, I was surfing the web looking for nothing in particular (honest) when my eye got caught by some pornsite ads. You've probably seen porn site ads before. Have you ? They're horrible, from a visual perspective. The Times obituary sections looks about as appealing. It got me to thinking. Do they HAVE to be ugly, by their very nature ? That shouldn't be, the human body is certainly a valid subject of art. Maybe their designers are absolutely incompetent, maybe they don't even have designers. But if you look at them carefully (which I did for a few hours, went through hundreds of sites just to look at the ads), they're a mannerism. Much like bad art in all times, I think they're ugly not through disinterest, but through excessive "normativity". You have to airbrush. You have to have garish text in yellow font. Etc. But maybe you don't. It's actually prepasterous, the key word in all porn is "niche", and yet all the ads follow the same rules, and all the models look the same. Insanity. So, I've started this little project, just out of curiosity, let's see if one can make porn ads that aren't utterly repugnant. I've signed up with one of them sites and we've talked about it and eventually we got it so they let me do whatever I want with their (huge) pic gallery and call it an add and use it to link to them. I've tried to observe the "rules" currently in use, and utterly break them. If possible, make them impossible. From what I've seen, the sex industry seems entirely too preoccupied with margins. They want their girls to have perfectly cut, well defined edges. You can't have flab. Even if actual women actually have fat on them. Everything has to be smooth and clean cut. All surfaces polished and clean and uniformly colored, if possible in inhumane hues. They airbrush, they use surgery, they will do anything. Why ? I don't know. So I've tried to completely fuck over the margins, and preserve the female line in a way that's not related with it's absolute margins. There's line and form and shape to a leg or an ass irrespective of that millimeter where skin meets air. In a sense it is my attempt to go deeper than skin deep. And since most models don't appear naturally pigmented, might as well go full blast, make them green and pastel blue. Why not ? I'm relatively happy with the results, at least sufficiently happy to put them online. I'll certainly be working more on this, it's an ongoing project. From a business perspective, I'm actually getting about 50 times higher click-through rates than what's considered average for the "industry". Not sure that means too much, seeing how I'm pretty convinced a drunk goat could do 50 times better than the industry standard. Mostly because the industry standard is, overpay on a silly domain name, put up 50 or so pages with the same girls in the same postures on the same couches and wait for a thinner and thinner slice of the jerk-off pie. At any rate, enjoy the ladies. They're here to stay. |
