That's the back of a ceral box. Cereal is a saturated market. Anyone can make it, just as good as anyone else. There's no actual reason for anybody to prefer any particular product. As such, it all comes down to brand, and reputation and capturing the "good will" of the consumers and in general, who can fill more square miles with paint while at the same time screaming the brand name loudest. And the less people care, the more paint and the coarser voice. It costs alot of money, that, and it takes alot of effort. Hundreds of people sweated bullets to come up with the stupid ceral box above. It's not blue by accident. The font size was probably ran against some sort of consumer preference data. Just picking up what to give away free in every box, in this case films, and which ones took meetings. Plural. Meetings. All sorts of executives and consultants and other very busy and important professionals, all of them making more than minimal wage. But they did come up with it, picked the toaster and the color scheme and the font and bought all the paint and got the campaign rolling. And then, one single person, with one black and white rubber stamp, fixed them. Do you suppose the presumed "goodwill" aquired by giving away free stuff that nobody wants in the target market even comes close to compensate the very palpable ill will earned in some other, apparently non-target, market ? So how is it that one single guy on minimum wage, with just some black ink can so effectively render null the efforts of meetings upon meetings of consultants, and executives, and designers and whatnot ? This is the power of bad ideas. Fear it. 9 people are petrified. |
